The Lighthouse Church in Santa Rosa, California has partnered with ERS in producing the TV series “The Lighthouse” in the Christian TV station KTLN from Oct 15, 2010 to 2015. The Lighthouse TV program has been broadcasted on Comcast channel 25 or on Direct TV or Dish channel 68 on Friday nights from 10:30 to 11:00 p.m.
Power in Weakness
“But Lord, “ Gideon asked, “how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” The LORD answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together.”(Judges 6:15-16)
Most of the time, we tend to look at ourselves and see how small and weak we are, just like Gideon, when he heard God’s calling in Judges 6:15. No one would have imagined God would bring ERS and The Lighthouse Church together to build a TV studio, producing weekly programs that would impact up to 101 cities in Northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area with the gospel of Christ. This is a testimony of how weak vessels, when working together in unity, can accomplish “the impossible” with God.
Early 2007, ERS had just completed Fly Away from Superstition DVD, to save the office rental expense in order to propose the next Gambling Addiction DVD- Quick Fix. We moved ERS’ office back to Charles Lin’s house. When the time came to have a new office space for Quick Fix, we prayed that God would provide an office for us.
During the same time, Lighthouse Santa Rosa, a 70 member local church that has been striving to obey God through giving, has supported many missionaries, ministries, orphans and widows. Pastor Kelly and his coworkers constantly seek to be used by God “beyond the church walls.” In 2007, after learning that ERS was looking for an office space, the Lighthouse leadership wanted to invest in our ministry despite their limited resources. They took a leap of faith to offer a 250 sq ft trailer free of rent as office space to ERS to support our mission work to Chinese people.
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”(Luke 6:38)
Two weeks after the Lighthouse Church gave ERS the office space, to everybody’s amazement, they received a call from a local contractor. He just removed a 1,000 sq ft of mobile classroom from a school yard, which was still in a very nice condition. He offered to ship this classroom to the Lighthouse without any charge. The classroom was 4 times greater than the trailer they let ERS use! This was only the beginning of many more surprises to come!
Not long after that, a group of Fijian-Americans approached pastor Kelly and inquired about starting a Sunday afternoon service in their church. The Lighthouse saw this as opportunity for “kingdom expansion,” and agreed. Fijian worship service started to host on Sunday afternoon. The Lighthouse began to get connected with Fijian population who we were unfamiliar with.
Later on, Pastor Kelly was approached by two Hispanic pastors from “Vision Mundial”, a TV ministry reaching out to the Hispanic community. They were looking for a space to set up a broadcasting station. Seeing this as another kingdom expansion opportunity, the Lighthouse said yes again. Although “Vision Mundial” later transferred their site to other place, little did we know that their TV ministry would become the inspiration and a model for the Lighthouse and ERS to partner together producing TV programs that would broadcast to Bay area in the near future.
How wonderful it is that the result of continuously give-it-out brought 4 groups of different races gathering in a church compound that worshiped and ministered together in 4 languages!
TV Studio Inside a Trailer
ERS believed that God is redeeming media and will use it to fill the earth with the knowledge of His glory. Pastor Kelly had this same vision and stepped out in faith to sign an one-year contract in 2010 with KTLN, a Christian TV station, providing weekly 30-minute gospel TV programs. It sounded like “mission impossible” at that time, however, united in Christ, we can dream big. Together, ERS and the Lighthouse said “yes” to God.
Pastors Kelly and Roy started to remodel the other unused trailer, and ERS began designing the infrastructure of hardware and software for the studio. Almost an entire month was spent on gathering building materials, shopping on-line, making trips to HomeDepot, and finding innovative ways of utilizing existing equipment, including converting an old fan switch into a light controller, a retired laptop for digital countdown. After repeated modification, repairs, and testing, the TV studio was officially established.
Real People, Real Answers and Real God
From Oct 15, 2010, the broadcasting of a series of TV program “The Lighthouse “ started. It interviewed the “Real People”, portrayed the “Real Answers” and witnessed the wonders of a “Real God”! Some of the broadcasted episodes are:
“Rampart realized”- A story of how a faithful pastor’s wife, a phase two Hodgkin’s lymphoma patient, clung to God’s promises and was completely healed.
“Shalom”- A plumber, addicted to methamphetamine, marijuana, alcohol, and cigarette, was forsaken by his wife and kids, found a long-forgotten gospel tract in a sock drawer and got saved.
After eight years of marriage with no children, an infertile couple is blessed with three children, and experience supernatural healing of their baby’s club-feet.
These 30-minute programs shared the stories of humble, ordinary people encountering the power of an almighty God. These powerful testimonies, though born of weak vessels much like you and I, are a source of great hope to many people.
ERS is in charge of editing and production of these programs. This is a fulfillment of God’s calling for ERS – to provide “information aids” to the body of Christ.
